Mid-Autumn Festival 2008
Friday, November 21, 2008 12:47 AM

Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month every year. It is one of the most widely celebrated Chinese folk festivals by Chinese communities around the world and is considered as one of the two most important holidays in the Chinese calendar. Every year, my family and i will not failed to visit the two locations where mid-autumn festival was largely held: Singapore Chinese Garden and Chinatown

Singapore Chinese Garden
Singapore Chinese Garden is pleasantly situated in the suburb of Jurong. This year the organizer came out with the theme Kitty Go Races, the entire location was decorated with all the sanrio family members. Being able to witness the lights go officially, the latern in my hand seem to play a part in the celebration. I can't take my eyes off the "kawaii" lanterns when i arrive there. Occupying an approximate 13.5 hectares, make sure you get a map before entering Chinese Garden so that you won't get lost. Also make sure you get there early to get the best location to witness the multi-coloured explosions dance across the sky. The Chinese Garden is the most ideal place to celebrate Mid-Autumn festival and reunion amongst friends and family for me. I'm sure that this event is also not to be missed for tourist who wants to participate in the Mid-Autumn festive mood in Singapore.

Lantern Fantasy 2008 is the Biggest Character Lantern Show ever in the world, and will continuously to organize the best in the future that fills the air with joy and laughter.

Chinatown
Another Mid-Autumn Festival location was held at Chinatown, one of the cultural heritage sites in Singapore. Whenever i visit Chinatown during the Mid-Autumn Festival, you really need to squeeze yourself through the crowd but this is where you can enjoy the festive spirit. At this point of time, Chinatown will be transforms into a dazzling carnival of lights, bazaar, and bustling activities. As a chinnese community in Singapore, I really look forward to interacting with other ethnic groups and tourists when everyone is gather for this festival celebration.

The bustling Festive Street Bazaar will feature over 400 street stalls every year. The 400 street stalls is so long that i can't possibly finish shopping in one day. The Festival Street Bazaar offers a one-stop shopping destination for tourists to purchase traditional festival goods ranging from mooncakes, pomelos and tealeaves to lanterns and more. I highly recommend tourists to try out our different kinds of mooncakes available. It's yummy but make sure you accompany it with a pot of fragrance tea which is a perfect match.

I certainly love the Nightly Stage Shows at Kreta Ayer Square. The renowned entertainers will enliven the night with lively and vibrant performances.

Join over 10 000 Mid-Autumn Festival revelers in a mass lantern procession, as we walk with our lanterns from Outram Park MRT to Central, where we will celebrate the closing of Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival with pyrotechnic displays and performances.

Join us for this popular festival; you can be with us from the starting of the light up till the closing of the Mid-Autumn Festival. This auspicious occasion is a time of gathering and reunion for you, your families and your friends to come together to enjoy mooncakes, Chinese tea and appreciate the moon at its fullest with the friend of different races in Singapore.
